Allergy suffers are very sensitive to ingredients commonly found in food, furnishings, cosmetics, toiletries, cleaning materials and lots of other things that we use in our daily lives. For that reason, at Bio-Life we carefully select the ingredients that we use in our products and constantly review new information on chemicals that are often innocent because they have not yet been proven guilty!
The ingredients we use obviously vary according to the products and their role in allergy prevention.
Ingredients in AirCleanse™, HomeCleanse™ & FabriCleanse™
These household products for removing allergens and mould from beds, bedding, soft furnishings, laundry, carpets & the air we breathe are based on quaternium salts which are negatively charged surfactants and natural essential oils.
The quaterniums selected are 22 and 26 because they are proven non-irritant. We never use Quaternium-15 because it is implicated in skin irritation.
The essential oils are Eucalyptus globulus leaf oil and Peruvian Balsam. The Eucalyptus is grown in North Africa and Spain because in this environment, the leaves are low in Limonene. Eucalyptus from Australia and China are normally high in Limonene and this is not recommended for allergy sufferers.
The chemical name for the extract derived from the Peruvian balsam is Benzyl benzoate. In its natural form derived directly from the plant, it is safe even for the most sensitive people and commonly used in cough mixtures. We avoid synthetic forms of this active ingredient.
The essential oils are dissolved in water and alcohol with the help of a solubiliser — an ingredient that enables you to combine oil and water. Once the solubiliser is added, the solution is no longer alcoholic because together the combination forms a new compound that is safe and inert.
Most importantly, the products are proven EFFECTIVE as well as safe because symptoms such as asthma are not just irritating – they can be life threatening!
Ingredients in PetAlCleanse™ Cat and Dog
PetAlCleanse™ is based on the same quaternium salts but does not contain essential oils because they are not necessary for the removal of pet allergens on the coat. At Bio-Life we always use the minimum necessary to achieve the objective. The solution is odourless and tasteless because cats especially hate any sort of fragrance. Fragrances are well known allergens that can cause allergic reactions in people and pets.
Before the product was launched in 2000, veterinary surgeons carefully monitored 142 pets that were volunteered by their owners to take part in a safety trial. The only effect on the pet was a significant improvement in coat condition.
The conditioners applied are natural and include aloe vera, vitamin B (D-panthenol) and extracts of comfrey, limeflower and rosemary.
Ingredients in MediCleanse

The actives are combined with rose hip seed oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, vitamins and extracts of comfrey and honey to moisturise the skin.
The antimicrobial MediCleanse skincare ranges for you and for your dogs are certified “Chemical Friendly” by Allergy UK.

This insect repellent is based on natural essential oils and Picaridin.
Picaridin, launched in 2005, is a World Health Organisation approved alternative to DEET. Unlike DEET, Picaridin does not irritate skin or eyes and most importantly, protracted use does not poison your nervous system!
EcoCitrocin can be used safely to repel all biting insects including mosquitos and midges and is suitable for adults, children AND pets.
Special care for babies and children who suffer from allergies
When it comes to little ones who suffer from serious allergic reactions such as asthma, we always recommend that you consult your GP before removing medication such as inhalers. Inhalers are steroid based and need a gradual withdrawal to ensure that there are no side effects.
In all serious cases, we always suggest that you keep a supply of prescribed medicines for emergency. Bio-Life Home Care products provide safe allergy relief in your home but cannot guarantee the same when you visit friends and family.
